Nopales.
Mas Mexicano que el nopal.
Nopal, prickly pear cactus, is the “paddle” cactus tree, as well as the name for the large ping pong- paddle-shaped leaves that grow on the tree, although we often call these nopalitos. The Mexican flag features a nopal, upon which an eagle perches, devouring a snake. This design is also on the Mexican Coat of Arms, and is stamped on Mexican coins, on the side that in the United States is referred to as “tails.” |
